What Our Installation Service Includes

Every gas light installation is quoted for the specific job — some lanterns arrive ready to hang, others require real assembly, and no two homes have the same gas access. But every quote includes the things that matter:

Converting an Electric Lamp Post to Gas

This is one of our most common requests: the house has an electric coach light or lamp post, and the owner wants a real flame. We do these conversions regularly — and gas-to-electric when someone wants to go the other way.

For an electric-to-gas conversion to work well, two things matter:

If your fixture can't be converted, we'll quote a new gas lantern instead — often for less than homeowners expect, since the gas line work is the same either way.

How Long Does Installation Take?

Lead time is usually about a week from quote approval, depending on the season. Winter runs longer — fireplace season keeps our schedule full from October through January — so if you want lanterns burning for the holidays, get on the schedule in early fall.

The installation itself is typically done in a single visit.

Why Homeowners and Builders Choose Us

Gas lighting isn't a side service for us the way it is for most plumbers and electricians. It's one of the things we do best — we install them, repair them, and keep them running on an annual service list. That matters at installation time, because the details that cause problems years later (line sizing, sulfidation-prone runs, wind exposure, orifice selection) are the details we get right on day one.

Builders and outdoor living contractors: we handle lantern packages on new construction across Katy, Fulshear, and the Memorial villages — one sub for the lights, from selection to first lighting.

Where We Install Gas Lights

We install gas lanterns across Greater Houston, including Memorial, River Oaks, Tanglewood, Bellaire, West Houston, Katy, Cinco Ranch, Fulshear, Sugar Land, Cypress, Richmond, and Missouri City — and we regularly travel beyond the metro, from College Station to Galveston and Beaumont to San Antonio.

Gas Light Installation FAQs

How much does gas lantern installation cost?
Every installation is quoted for the specific job — lantern models vary widely in assembly required, and every home's gas access is different. Your quote includes all fittings needed to connect from your 1/2" gas line to the light. Request a quote and we'll give you a real number, not a range.
Can you convert my electric lamp post to gas?
Often, yes. The fixture needs proper ventilation for a gas flame, so not every electric fixture is a candidate — we'll tell you up front. If yours can't be converted, a new gas lantern is usually simpler than expected, since the gas line work is the same.
What kind of gas line do you use for lanterns?
We recommend copper — it stands up to burner temperatures and Houston weather for decades. Stainless steel or aluminum can work but won't last as long in outdoor exposure.
How long does it take to get lanterns installed?
Usually about a week from quote approval. Winter lead times run longer because fireplace season fills the schedule — for holiday lighting, book in early fall.
Can you help me choose the right lantern for my house?
Yes. If you have a designer, we follow their selections. If not, we'll help you pick a lantern that fits your home's style and scale from the Coppersmith, Legendary Lighting, and St. James lines we carry, and recommend placement that looks right from the street.
Do gas lanterns run on natural gas or propane?
Either. Most Houston installations run on natural gas, but we install and service propane lanterns as well.
Do you install lanterns for builders and contractors?
Yes — we handle complete lantern packages on new construction and outdoor living projects: selection, supply, installation, and first lighting, plus ongoing service after closing.
Who services the lantern after it's installed?
We do. Most of our installation customers join our annual service list — we call every year to schedule regular cleaning before Houston's sulfidation buildup causes problems. See our gas light repair page for service details and pricing.
