Flickering, sputtering, or won't stay lit — we diagnose it on the spot and fix most gas lights the same visit.
A gas lantern that flickers, sputters, or won't stay lit isn't just an eyesore — on a home with gas lighting, it's usually the first thing guests see. Gas Products Unlimited has repaired and restored gas lights across Greater Houston for more than 25 years. It's not a side service for us the way it is for most plumbers — gas lighting is one of the things we do best.
We come to you, diagnose the problem on the spot, and in most cases fix it the same visit.
Most lantern calls come down to a handful of causes, and we carry the parts to handle them on the truck:
If your lantern is beyond repair, we're also Houston's dealer for Coppersmith, Legendary Lighting, and St. James — so replacement options are one conversation, not another contractor. Browse our gas lantern catalog.
Plumbers can run gas lines. But a lantern that won't stay lit is rarely a line problem — it's a sulfidation, mantle, orifice, or wind-design problem, and diagnosing that takes someone who works on lanterns every week. We've serviced everything from 40-year-old copper lanterns in River Oaks to brand-new electronic-ignition installs in Katy, on both natural gas and propane.
$150 for a single light · $125 per light for multiple lights
That's not just a trip fee — it's a complete service: we clean the copper gas line, valve, burner, orifice, and glass, and uninstall and reinstall the light if the job calls for it. If a part needs replacing, we quote it separately before any work begins.
We show up when we say we will — our Google reviews mention punctuality more than anything else.
"The technician scheduled the appointment and showed up on time and identified the problem and solved it quickly keeping costs for the service call very reasonable!"
"I called on Wednesday regarding our gas light out front and you were here on Thursday as scheduled! You are always on time and reliable! Thank you so much!"
Most of our gas light customers are annual customers. Houston's climate means sulfidation buildup is a when, not an if — so we keep an annual call list and call you at the same time every year to schedule your regular service before your lights start acting up. Ask to be added when we're out.
Already have an electric coach light and want the real thing? We convert electric lamp posts to gas — and gas to electric — when the light fits the right criteria. Contact us for details on conversions and new installs.
