Gas Light Problems We Fix

Most lantern calls come down to a handful of causes, and we carry the parts to handle them on the truck:

If your lantern is beyond repair, we're also Houston's dealer for Coppersmith, Legendary Lighting, and St. James — so replacement options are one conversation, not another contractor. Browse our gas lantern catalog.

Why Call a Gas Lighting Specialist Instead of a Plumber?

Plumbers can run gas lines. But a lantern that won't stay lit is rarely a line problem — it's a sulfidation, mantle, orifice, or wind-design problem, and diagnosing that takes someone who works on lanterns every week. We've serviced everything from 40-year-old copper lanterns in River Oaks to brand-new electronic-ignition installs in Katy, on both natural gas and propane.

What a Service Visit Costs

$150 for a single light · $125 per light for multiple lights

That's not just a trip fee — it's a complete service: we clean the copper gas line, valve, burner, orifice, and glass, and uninstall and reinstall the light if the job calls for it. If a part needs replacing, we quote it separately before any work begins.

We show up when we say we will — our Google reviews mention punctuality more than anything else.

Annual Gas Light Service

Most of our gas light customers are annual customers. Houston's climate means sulfidation buildup is a when, not an if — so we keep an annual call list and call you at the same time every year to schedule your regular service before your lights start acting up. Ask to be added when we're out.

Electric-to-Gas and Gas-to-Electric Conversions

Already have an electric coach light and want the real thing? We convert electric lamp posts to gas — and gas to electric — when the light fits the right criteria. Contact us for details on conversions and new installs.

Where We Service Gas Lights

We repair gas lanterns across Greater Houston, including Memorial, River Oaks, Tanglewood, Bellaire, West Houston, Katy, Cinco Ranch, Fulshear, Sugar Land, Cypress, Richmond, and Missouri City. Have lights outside the metro? We regularly travel — everything from College Station to Galveston and Beaumont to San Antonio. Mobile service; we come to you.

Gas Light Repair FAQs

Why won't my gas lantern stay lit?
In Houston, the #1 cause is sulfidation — carbon buildup inside the copper gas line that slowly chokes off the pressure. A low-pressure flame blows out far more easily. Re-lighting it yourself works for a day or two, but the real fix is cleaning the line. Worn valves, blocked orifices, and wind exposure are the other usual suspects.
What is sulfidation?
A reaction inside copper gas lines that deposits carbon buildup over time, restricting gas flow. It's the most common gas light problem we see in Houston, and it's why regular service matters — cleaning the copper line is part of every service visit we do.
How much does gas light service cost?
$150 for one light, or $125 per light for multiple lights. That includes cleaning the copper line, valve, burner, orifice, and glass — and uninstalling/reinstalling the light if needed. Parts are quoted separately before any work begins.
Do you repair all brands of gas lights?
Yes — we service any gas light. We're authorized dealers for Coppersmith, Legendary Lighting, and St. James, but we repair virtually any gas lantern, including older copper lanterns whose manufacturers no longer exist.
How often do gas lights need service?
Mantles typically last 6–12 months, and sulfidation buildup is gradual — which is why most of our gas light customers are on our annual call list. We call at the same time every year to schedule regular service before problems start.
Can you convert my electric lamp post to gas?
Yes — we do conversions both directions (electric to gas, and gas to electric) when the light fits the right criteria. Contact us and we'll take a look at your light.
Do gas lanterns waste a lot of gas?
A standard open-flame lantern uses roughly what a pilot light does. If you'd rather not run it 24/7, ask about electronic ignition — it lights the lantern only when you want it on.
Do you service Katy and Sugar Land, or just central Houston?
All of Greater Houston — Katy, Cinco Ranch, Fulshear, Sugar Land, Cypress, Richmond, Memorial, River Oaks, and surrounding areas — and we travel well beyond the metro, from College Station to Galveston and Beaumont to San Antonio.
